The Telegraph Investigates MPs' Expenses Scandal

For months now British citizens have been astonished and appalled at the unfolding evidence that most MPs, including members of the Government, have been making excessive and scarcely credible claims for expenses, in the belief that the details would never be subjected to public scrutiny.

Harriet Harman, Labour's Leader of the Commons, has had the unenviable task of trying to defend the indefensible, reduced at one point to claiming that at any rate our MPs are not as corrupt as politicians in some other countries! She said, "In our system we do not have the level of corruption that obtains in many other countries." Well I don't think that's any comfort to our increasingly angry and disgusted electorate.

How can this over-rewarded political élite have an understanding of the problems and lives of ordinary citizens?

What a pity that the time and ingenuity they have been spending on their embellished expenses claim forms have not been spent on dealing with problems more appropriate for the representatives of a troubled electorate.
