Prince William Makes Surprise Visit to 109-Year-Old to Apologise

Catherine Masters had received five birthday cards from the Queen over the years and in each of them Her Majesty was wearing the same dress, so Ms Masters had written to the Palace to complain. She was surprised when Prince William turned up at her nursing home to apologise in person.

The Prince and Ms Masters had a cup of tea together, during which he said that his grandmother would change her outfit on the cards in time for the next birthday card. They chatted about the Badminton Horse Trials and about cooking, with Ms Masters advising the Prince to fluff potatoes with a fork when making shepherd's pie, rather than use a masher.

Ms Masters has now been invited to a garden party with the Queen at Buckingham Palace on 7 July, for which she is going to buy a new dress and hat.

If only all letters of complaint produced results like that!
