Lucy Murphy, 9, eats a very fatty diet to reduce her epileptic seizures.
The Telegraph reports that "the fat produces ketones which can help prevent seizures and is supported by a specialist dietitian funded by the Daisy Garland charity."
Until starting the high fat diet a year ago, Lucy suffered frequent seizures and had to take large doses of medication to control them. Now she has a much more normal life, has started ballet lessons, is learning keyboard and violin, and goes to the Brownies. She now has a seizure only once every week or two.
Lucy has a healthy BMI despite eating a diet that is 80% fat, mainly from butter, cream, oils and naturally fatty foods. Her mother says Lucy has cream with everything. She needs less medication now and has not had to go to hospital in the past year.
