The Redskins released a statement Monday morning regarding safety Sean Taylor. Here is the full text of the statement:
"The Washington Redskins became aware of a situation this morning in which safety Sean Taylor was the victim of a shooting at his residence in Florida.
"The Miami Dade Police Department is currently investigating the situation.
"Taylor is currently undergoing treatment at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida."
Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder spoke to the media mid-day.
"On behalf of the Redskins, the players and everyone here at the Redskins, our hearts and prayers go out to Sean and his family. Myself and a group of Redskins are on our way to Miami.
"I really don't have any details other than what everyone else has been reading and reporting. Our hearts and prayers are with Sean and his family."
Taylor has been rehabbing from a knee injury suffered two weeks ago. He did not travel with the team to Sunday's game in Tampa Bay.
Taylor was reportedly at his home in Miami on Sunday night.
A somber Clinton Portis spoke to the media on Monday and addressed the situation regarding Sean Taylor, his close friend.
Taylor was the victim of a shooting at his residence in Florida early on Monday morning. He is currently undergoing treatment at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida.
"It's an unfortunate situation," Portis said. "It's hard. How can you deal with it? It's hard. There's nothing we can do. All we can think about is if he had been with us on the flight to Tampa, if he was at the game with us, then he would not have been in that situation.
"At the same time, I think that it was God's plan. You can't divert or change God's plan. Sean is a tough guy and I believe he will pull through this."
Portis and Taylor played together at the University of Miami.
At Redskins Park, their lockers are adjacent to each other.
Portis and his girlfriend had a baby girl last year. That had prompted a change in the Pro Bowl safety.
"Ever since Sean had his little girl, it was like a new Sean," Portis said. "He was always smiling, always happy, always talking about his child. It was good to see Sean walk by smiling.
"Now all of a sudden, his back is up against the wall, our backs are up against the wall."
Head coach Joe Gibbs will hold a press conference on Monday at 4:45 p.m. ET. Redskins.com TV broadcasts the press conference LIVE from Redskins Park.
