On November 30 from 6 to 10 p.m., Denver’s art-lovers are invited to immerse themselves in Denver Art Museum’s colorful collections and newest exhibition, Color as Field: American Painting, 1950-1975. Ready to “paint the town red,” guests will enjoy an event-filled evening at the Museum’s tenth Untitled final-Friday affair.
In honor of the Museum’s newest exhibition, Color as Field: American Painting, 1950-1975, Untitled #10 (Chroma) celebrates the works of major color field painters like Helen Frankenthaler, Morris Louis, Jules Olitski and their predecessors like Mark Rothko and Clyfford Still. The night will feature the debut of UnStaged, an interactive musical ensemble. Visitors can tour the new exhibit and DAM’s other color-filled galleries while gaining aromatic insight into the color-soaked artworks with the help of detour guide and perfumer, Dawn Spencer Hurwitz.
Guests can use the pigment of their imagination to decorate a pair of rose-colored glasses and discover which hue they radiate with a whimsical diagnostic quiz. Visitors can also groove to the sounds of The Wheel, performing live, and they are invited to experience Untitled’s newest tradition: Buntport Theater with another hilarious installment of the “Joan and Charlie Show.” Many artists call their work “Untitled” so there’s nothing to limit how each viewer perceives the art.
Similarly, anything can happen at our series of Untitled events. Like the final-Friday event of every month, Untitled #10 (Chroma) will offer music, a cash bar and other offbeat encounters with art, all with a dose of the unexpected. Also on Friday, November 30, is the annual 9News Parade of Lights at 8 p.m. DAM invites visitors to park once and enjoy both events. Parking will be available in the Cultural Complex Garage on 12th and Broadway with a flat event rate of $10. Untitled final-Friday night events are included in regular Museum admission. Students presenting valid IDs receive 2-for-1 admission when tickets are purchased on-site. Catering is provided by Bistro Boys Catering and Gourmet Fine Catering.
Untitled will resume in January 2008 after a one-month hiatus in December. Spotlighting the ways artists deal with social and political issues, Untitled #11 (You Are Here) will reboot with an artful bang on January 25. In February, celebrate the fifth and final Friday of the month at Untitled #12 (Anomaly) as the Denver Art Museum marks leap day, February 29. -- www.denverartmuseum.org
