Long Wharf Theatre Presents Hilarious 'Santaland Diaries'

Long Wharf Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein and Managing Director Joan Channick presents The Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris from Dec. 4 - 23, starring Thomas Sadoski and directed by Kim Rubinstein (Private Lives and Guys and Dolls).

Mr. Sadoski returns to Long Wharf Theatre where he was last seen in The Waverly Gallery (2001).

Hilarity abounds in this irreverent commentary on America’s fascination with all things Claus! Curtain times are Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7 pm, Thursdays and Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 3 pm and 8 pm, and Sundays at 2 pm and 7 pm.

Based on David Sedaris’ own experience, The Santaland Diaries divulges the comical journey of "Crumpet," a 33-year-old starving artist turned Macy’s Santaland elf.

First read by David Sedaris on NPR’s Morning Edition in 1992, The Santaland Diaries was the essay that plunged Sedaris into the national spotlight.

"David Sedaris is one of our funniest and more irreverent wits," said Edelstein. "What a brilliantly subversive look at the commercialization of most people’s favorite holiday! I am so glad to be able to share it with our audiences."

A satirical cult classic intended for an adult audience, The Santaland Diaries is adapted by Joe Mantello, the creator of the Broadway smash Wicked. Several performances are already sold out.

Single tickets for The Santaland Diaries are available online; by phone at 203-787-4282; and in person at the Long Wharf Theatre Box Office (222 Sargent Drive). Prices range from $40-$60. Senior, under 30, student, and group rates are available.

Audience members are invited to enrich their theatre-going experience by participating in any of Long Wharf Theatre’s premiere events during the run of The Santaland Diaries.
