
McCallum Theatre Institute, the Education Division of the McCallum Theatre, has announced the Winners of the 10th Annual Dance Under The Stars Choreography Festival.
This year's finalists were selected from 145 submissions by the selection committee, comprised of award-winning choreographers, dancers and dance activists. Eleven Division I and 20 Division II finalists competed for cash awards in front of an audience and a panel of judges. The Grand Prize in Division I was $5,000, with a $2,000 Grand Prize in Division II. Finalist placement cash awards were presented to all finalists.

The highly acclaimed festival, presented by the McCallum Theatre Institute, in association with the city of Palm Desert Delete College of the Desert, celebrates dance with competitions for choreographers working with professional and pre-professional dancers, as well as educational workshops open to the public.
As part of the 10th Anniversary celebration the institute placed festival award winning choreographers Jennifer Backhaus and William Lu in residence at Desert Mirage High School and Toro Canyon Middle School in Thermal. After an initial workshop and audition with 63 students, 24 students were selected to participate in the East Valley Dance Project which involved six rehearsals and a final performance of an original piece on the McCallum stage in conjunction with the festival's Division II performance.
The McCallum Theatre Institute, established in September 1997, is the education division of the McCallum Theatre for the Performing Arts.
