Discover the wonderful world of art during Winter Weekends for Families at the Brandywine River Museum from January 26 through February 24, 2008.
Children of all ages will enjoy Jerry Pinkney: Aesop's Fables and Other Tails, on view through March 9, 2008. This exhibition features delightful portrayals of animals for The Tortoise and the Hare, The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing and other fables by Aesop. The winner of numerous awards including five Caldecott Honor Medals and five Coretta Scott King Awards, Pinkney skillfully captures the wit and whimsy of these timeless classics.
The exhibition will close temporarily between January 7 through January 18. Upon reopening, it will include additional illustrations Pinkney created for The Ugly Duckling, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, Uncle Remus Tales and other well-known children's stories.
Explore the museum's galleries with a Museum Discovery Game where your powers of observation will be tested to find certain objects represented in the works of art. As part of Winter Weekends, visitors will also receive a free copy of the Family Guide: A Museum Activity Book. The guide contains a treasure of activities for children to use during their museum visits or at home.
Audio tours specially designed for children ages six through twelve are available in the Museum Shop. Parents can listen to the adult version while their kids are entertained with the children's version. Audio tour rentals are $3 each or two for one. The tours feature commentary on over 30 favorite works of art from the museum's collection, including Bill Bones from N.C. Wyeth's Treasure Island illustrations, Jamie Wyeth's Portrait of Pig, and Howard Pyle's The Nation Makers. Support for the children's audio tours is provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. -- www.brandywinemuseum.org
