Canton Orchestra Celebrates Holidays With Two Concerts

Two different holiday concerts will be presented by the Canton Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the magic of the season.

HOLIDAY BRASS

The Holiday Brass concert on Saturday, December 8, 2007 in Umstattd Hall at 8:00 p.m. will feature the Orchestra, the Canton Symphony Chorus, 30 members of the Bluecoats and the McKinley High School Choir. This concert offers traditional holiday favorites, sure to inspire every listener. The Bluecoats, a vibrant drum and bugle corps that performs across the nation with Drum Corps International (DCI), has both male and female members ranging in ages from 15 to 22. They have been named one of the DCI’s elite “Top 12” since 1987.

The Holiday Brass Concert will include “Winter Wonderland,” music from “The Nutcracker,” Handel’s beautiful “Hallelujah Chorus” from the Messiah, selections by the Canton Symphony Chorus and the Bluecoats and the voices of the McKinley High School Choir. Audience members will be given the chance to sing along with this spectacular line-up.

Tickets to Holiday Brass are $15, $20 or $25 for adults, $7 for children 12 and under. Discounts are available for seniors and students. This concert is sponsored by ASC Industries and by the Repository.

SANTA AT THE SYMPHONY

On December 16, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. the Orchestra brings Santa Claus to Umstattd Hall. “Santa at the Symphony,” a concert designed to entertain children of all ages, will feature several groups along with the Canton Symphony Orchestra: the Canton Youth Symphony, the Canton Ballet, the GlenOak Notables and Drifters and the GlenOak Dancers.

The program will include the “Nutcracker Suite,” “Sleigh Ride,” “A Rockin’ Christmas,” selections from the opera “Amahl and the Night Visitors” and many more. The audience will be invited to sing-along on some pieces, a favorite tradition of the Canton Symphony Orchestra at holiday time.

Tickets to Santa at the Symphony are $15 for adults, $7 for children 12 and under. Discounts are available for seniors and students. This concert is co-sponsored by First Merit Bank and by the Joseph A. Jeffries Company. -- www.cantonsymphony.org
