Kentucky Opera Presents Dialogues Of Carmelites

Kentucky Opera will conclude the 2007-08 Brown-Forman FALL SEASON with Francis Poulenc’s DIALOGUES OF THE CARMELITES on Friday, November 30 at 8pm and Sunday, December 2 at 2pm. Single tickets range from $40 - $95.

A Kentucky Opera premiere, DIALOGUES OF THE CARMELITES is an opera in three acts that will be performed in English with supertitles above the stage. It is based on a drama by Georges Bernanos, which premiered January 26, 1957 at La Scala, in Milan.

Poulenc's opera follows the spiritual awakening of Blanche de la Force, a noblewoman who seeks refuge from the terrors of the French Revolution in the Carmelite convent at Compiègne. This opera is historical fiction in that the events, and the majority of the characters are real, but the central character, Blanche, is fictional.

The thematically lush score is unlike other operas in that it is truly written as a dialogue without arias or ensembles. -- www.kyopera.org
