Get into the mood for Christmas with SSO’s performance of Handel’s sacred oratorio Messiah at the Esplanade Concert Hall on December 1. Messiah remains Handel's best-loved composition, with its famous 'Hallelujah Chorus' performed by choirs the world over. Limited tickets are still available from SISTIC.

Messiah was composed in 1741, with Charles Jennens writing the libretto combining Old and New Testament texts. It encapsulates the central beliefs of Christianity, from the Old Testament prophecies of the coming of the Messiah through to the Nativity and crucifixion of Jesus, the Resurrection and Ascension, and the belief in final victory over sin, death and decay. Upon completing the Hallelujah Chorus, Handel is said to have proclaimed: "I did think I did see all Heaven before me, and the great God himself!"

Experience the magic of this breathtaking masterpiece live, conducted by Maestro Lim Yau and performed by a stellar cast comprising soprano Robin Johannsen, mezzo-soprano Laure de Marcellus, tenor Hugo Mallet, bass-baritone Andrew Greenan, the Singapore Symphony Chorus, Singapore Bible College Chorale and the Hallelujah Chorus. -- www.sso.org.sg
