Dayton Orchestra Season Opens At Schuster Center

The opening concert of the DPYO’s 70th Anniversary Season includes Franz von Suppé's Poet and Peasant Overture to a three-act operetta once described as a "comedy with songs." Next, Jean Sibelius’s Finlandia, a powerful, nationalistic tone poem, with which we remember the great Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius, as the world commemorates the 50th anniversary of his death in 1957.

Howard Hanson’s Symphony No. 2, Romantic, closes the program. One of the great American symphonies, Hanson’s Romantic Symphony is filled with exciting and beautiful melodies. The symphony dates from 1930s – the decade of the founding of the DPYO.
