The West Australian Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Guy Noble will present Symphony in the City on Sunday 9 December at 7.30pm. Home Building Society, WASO and the City of Perth present this free classical concert as a gift to the people of Perth.

Janet Holmes Court AC, WASO Chairman said ”The West Australian Symphony Orchestra has a history of performing concerts in the city so Symphony in the City provides a wonderful opportunity to be able to continue this fine tradition.”

Greg Wall, Managing Director of Home Building Society said “we are thrilled to be working with WASO in delivering to the people of Perth a free concert performed by such an exceptional orchestra. Here at Home we have a proud history in supporting the community in WA and this concert we believe will, in a very short space of time, become a must see event in the Perth social calendar”

Lisa Scaffidi, Lord Mayor of the City of Perth said, “I’m delighted that we are able to bring the community together to enjoy a free concert by our state orchestra. With Perth’s spectacular skyline as a backdrop, this free concert on the Foreshore will capitalise on Perth’s unique advantages. It’s our gift to the people of Perth.”

Tenor James Egglestone and soprano Nicole Youl will feature in a program of much loved arias by Puccini; Nessun dorma from Turandot, Che gelida manina - Mi chiamano Mimi - O suave fanciulla from La Boheme and Un bel di from Madama Butterfly.

Orchestral favourites such as Beethoven’s Symphony No 5, Wagner’s The Ride of the Valkyries and Glinka’s Ruslan and Ludmilla Overture are included in the repertoire. The concert will have a dramatic ending with the ever-popular Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture which, on this occasion, will feature the bells of the Swan Bell Tower and the guns of the 7 Field Battery. -- www.waso.com.au
