Enjoy an evening of the many melodic colours of Russia on January 18, as virtuosic pianist Simon Trpčeski tackles the technically demanding and dazzlingly passionate Piano Concerto No. 1 by Rachmaninov. The Singapore Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Lan Shui.
Also listen out for Rimsky-Korsakov’s brilliantly colourful Capriccio espagnol - filled with Spanish themes of a dance character – and Stravinsky’s ballet music to Petrushka, inspired by the sawdust puppets which were a popular feature of Russian travelling fairs.
Simon Trpčeski, though only 28, has established himself as one of the most remarkable young musicians to have emerged in recent years, playing with many of the world’s great orchestras.
Born in the Republic of Macedonia in 1979, Simon Trpčeski has won prizes in international piano competitions in the UK (London International Piano Competition 2000), Czech Republic and Italy. -- www.sso.org.sg
