This marathon in the beautiful state of Hawaii turned to be a very popular one as 27,829 runners registered for Honolulu Marathon 2007.
It was the 35th annual Honolulu Marathon in 2007 which turned to be a big success and a gathering place for the University of Hawaii football stars.
University of Hawaii football fans began lining up outside the Hawaii Convention Center exhibition hall shortly after 8 a.m., and when the doors opened an hour later they headed straight for the autograph area.
Several dozen people were in line when UH receivers Ryan Grice-Mullins and Jason Rivers appeared amidst a round of applause. The two signed autographs and posed for pictures for several hundred fans during a 90-minute session at the Honolulu Marathon Expo on Saturday. They signed their names on footballs, t-shirts, photos, caps, and UH banners.
Amy Krukowski of Honolulu, who described herself as a big UH football fan, was one of the early arrivals. She obtained autographs for herself and a family member.
Cory Haitsuka and Momi Tamashiro of Honolulu, who said they also are big UH football fans, waited an hour for autographs. They had the two players sign copies of a recent coffee-table book about UH football, saying one of the books would be a Christmas present.
Keaulana Kapulei of Honolulu waited in line for 40 minutes with his wife and two small children. Asked if the wait was worth it, his wife said, "Oh yeah!'' Kapulei said he has been following UH football for some time and appreciated meeting the two players since the Sugar Bowl-bound team had a good season.
Pegi Braun of Honolulu was wearing a green t-shirt bearing number 15 on the back and "Colt Brennan for Heisman'' on the front. "We love him. Go Colt,'' she said a few hours before the ceremony in New York where the popular quarterback was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. - By HULIQ / Honolulu Marathon News
