Michael Vick Gets 23 Months Prison Sentence

Federal Courts handed down a strict 23 month sentencing to former Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick. It will be debated how much time the sentencing would have been reduced had Michael Vick not lied his involvement for months leading up to the sentence.

Michael Vick may have burned the biggest bridge when he lied to the NFL about being involved in dogfighting. Vick not only told Falcons owner Arthur Blank (an animal lover, we're told) that he wasn't involved, but he allegedly met with the NFL commissioner and stood by his innocence in the case.

"(Via Atlanta Journal Constitution) The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Henry E. Hudson, ended an eight month legal odyssey for Vick that saw him go from NFL star and the face of the Atlanta Falcons franchise to a prison inmate. The sentence on federal felony charges means Vick, suspended indefinitely by the NFL, won't play again until at least 2010. He still faces the league suspension. He has also been indicted in Virginia on state dogfighting charges and faces lawsuits from several banks. The Falcons are awaiting an arbitration ruling in an attempt to recoup $20 million in bonus money paid to Vick."

Michael Vick will most likely try to make a comeback to save his career in a few years when he gets out of jail. His days of the QB is over for all practical purposes but we bet there will be a lot of protest and lots of inside buzz from the league to leave his on the sidelines. Technically, the NFL can still suspend him for time after the sentence and a state case in Virginia could add more time onto his sentence, but we doubt the state will get that far.

The good news for Vick is that the CFL always needs punt returners. - Source By Dave and Thomas Blog
