Southbank Centre Presents Live Literature

The 2008 live literature programme at Southbank Centre starts with none other than Nobel Laureate, Doris Lessing at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on 22 January. Looking further ahead, there is new fiction from Peter Carey (6 February), Kate Mosse (30 January) and Hanif Kureishi (18 March) and on 20 February we celebrate one of the most dominant figures of post-war English writing, J.G. Ballard, who discusses his remarkable life with Hari Kunzru.

This year's Imagine: Children's Literature Festival (14-22 February), has a special focus on the theme of comedy, and features a top line-up of children's authors, comedians and performers, including Children's Laureate Michael Rosen (14 February), John Hegley (18 February) and Francesca Beard with the premiere of her amazing Animal Olympics (20 February).

Carrying on with the theme of humour, a new series of Comedy Nights at Southbank Centre includes a celebration of the late Linda Smith (9 March) and continues with Luke Wright, Poet and Man (14 March).

Jackie Kay, Jeanette Winterson and Ali Smith appear together on 5 March to celebrate International Women's Day and international authors Junot Diaz and Bi Feiyu, visit Southbank Centre for the first time.

In July, the London Literature Festival returns to Southbank Centre after securing a place in the capital's cultural calendar in its first year of existence. -- www.southbankcentre.co.uk
