NYC Transit Update On Access-A-Ride Job Action

MTA New York City Transit's Paratransit providers were able to accept reservations for approximately 75% of the trips requested on a normal Wednesday. While a normal Wednesday sees in excess of 19,000 trips, today Access-A-Ride booked 14,461 trips.

The preliminary estimate for tomorrow's service is 13,200 trips. Normal Thursday service usually supports about 18,500 reservations. The Access-A-Ride Reservation Center was able to address virtually all of the calls received today. About 1,400 taxi authorizations were issued and vouchers were given out for 750 car service rides.

As part of our strike contingency plan, we will continue to assign subscription trips, especially medically essential trips (i.e. dialysis treatment, chemo therapy, etc.) to other non-striking carriers. In addition, NYC Transit plans to continue utilizing supplemental service provided by private ambulette carriers, and the use of taxi vouchers. - Metropolotan Transportation Authority

Access-a-Ride strike

I have Monday to Friday subscription service for my work commute, and since this strike started I've had the best service ever: less lateness and more straightforward routes to and from my job. Still, I hope the strike ends soon. I really think the drivers should get parity with the MTA bus drivers. Paratransit drivers have a more challenging job than fixed route bus drivers.
