Brazil float to participate in Goa carnival

For the first time, Brazil will take part in the famous carnival celebrations in Goa by showcasing its float in the parade.

Goa Carnival, a crowd pulling international event organised by Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) and state tourist department, will be held between 2nd to 5th February next year.

"We will showcase common heritage (between Goa and Brazil) and will foster future cooperation through this event," Consul General of Brazil in Mumbai, Paulo Antonio Pinto, said.

"Brazilian community spread across India will come together for this show and will not only add glitter and glamour to Goa carnival but also enhance growth of tourism between both the countries," Pinto said.

Briefing press-persons in presence of GTDC Managing Director Sanjith Rodrigues and Deputy Consul General of Brazil Jandira Pacheco, Pinto said the event will showcase heritage of Brazil.

The nation is working on a theme "discovery of Brazil".

Emphasising that the float parade would be bereft of any nudity or vulgarity, Pinto said Brazil will follow all the norms of the state.

Goa carnival float parade is heralded by King Momo, a mythological character who pronounces the decree of "eat, drink and be merry."

"We will not disturb the composition of our float parade. In fact Brazilian participation is an addition," GTDC MD Rodrigue said replying to a question. - DDNEWS
