Eastern Sales & Marketing Adopts Socket Mobile SoMo 650

Socket Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCKT), dba Socket Mobile, Inc., an innovative provider of mobile productivity solutions, announced that Eastern Sales & Marketing (ESM) selected the Socket Mobile SoMo 650 to fulfill its mobile computing needs.

"Our sales force really needed a more durable solution than what's available on the consumer PDA market, but less costly than fully-ruggedized, industrial, handheld PC options," said Jim Ferolie, CIO of ESM. "We investigated the SoMo 650 based on a recommendation from Dell and our long, successful history of purchasing mobility peripherals from Socket Mobile. In one stop, the company was able to deliver a durable handheld computer customized for our specific business needs, as well as bar code scanning equipment essential to our day-in-day-out operations."

"ESM is a prime example of why we developed a business mobility device" said Bob Zink, vice president of sales and marketing at Socket Mobile. "We've seen strong interest for the SoMo 650 in the retail market as the industry becomes increasingly dependent on mobile computing."

The SoMo 650 handheld computer arms ESM's mobile workforce with a highly durable, easy-to-use and cost-efficient handheld computer to quickly and accurately access, record and transmit sales data between teams in disparate locations. ESM has deployed SoMo 650 units loaded with ESM's proprietary retail system software, MerchantEyes®, in the Metropolitan New York market area. ESM employees use the SoMo 650 for on-site sales and merchandising activities, including shelf stocking and display maintenance.

ESM first began automating its sales processes in the 1980s, leading to the deployment of a PDA solution with a bar code scanner attachment throughout its sales force. Throughout this time, Socket Mobile has been a core component of each deployed system. Source: by Socket
