DJ Samantha Ronson to Mix it Up At GM Style

Hit DJ-songwriter Samantha Ronson will keep the beat going at GM Style, an invitation-only celebration of cars, music and fashion. The VIP affair on Saturday, Jan. 12, leads up to the North American International Auto Show.

Ronson will run the mixing board between live music performances and after the event, joining Mary J. Blige and other performers GM plans to announce in the coming weeks.

GM also announced that two finalists for 2008 North American Car of the Year, the Chevrolet Malibu and the Cadillac CTS sedans, will roll into the party, as well as fashions by noted designers Kevan Hall, a Detroit native, Mark Zunino and Marciano for Guess? – all worn by some of the country’s leading models. All the GM Style vehicles and fashions will be introduced – runway style – in a high-energy, fast-pace show set to music. More cars and designers will be announced soon.

Ronson’s musical DNA runs deep. The stepdaughter of “Jukebox Hero” Mick Jones, of the rock group Foreigner, and brother of star DJ Mark Ronson, Ronson has joked that to get a word in at the dinner table, she had to know her tunes. Recent gigs have included the American Music Awards, ElleGirl Prom, IFC Awards, Sundance Film Festival and the VMAs in Miami. Also a songwriter, her “Built This Way,” appeared on the “Mean Girls” soundtrack.

“The momentum and excitement around GM Style is building quickly,” said Ed Welburn, GM vice president, Global Design. “It promises to be an evening in which the artistry of our vehicles, music and fashion converge in an exciting way for GM and for Detroit.”

The 2008 Chevrolet Malibu and 2008 Cadillac CTS sedans join the already-announced Chevrolet Beat and Saturn Astra Tuer concepts. Both finalists for North American Car of the Year, Malibu and CTS already have been named to Car and Driver’s “10 Best” list, and Motor Trend named the CTS its 2008 Car of the Year.

Malibu is already a runaway hit with customers, thanks to great performance, fuel economy and refinement, all wrapped in a clean, tailored design that carries the global face of Chevrolet.

The next phase of Cadillac’s product renaissance is seen in the all-new CTS, a blend of style, luxury and performance. It features Cadillac’s signature exterior styling and a sumptuous interior with features such as a pop-up navigation system and a 40-gig hard drive that enhance the experience. An available, all-new, 3.6L V-6 powerplant with direct injection balances power and efficiency.

The beautiful cars will share the runway with beautiful clothes, including Hall’s signature couture gowns that emphasize purity of style and sensuously draped silhouettes. A former house of Halston design and creative director, Hall has dressed Hollywood’s most beautiful women, including Salma Hayek, Charlize Theron, Angela Basset and Felicity Huffman.

Zunino’s clothes retain the glamour of old Hollywood with a modern approach, and have been worn by the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Barbra Streisand, Ann-Margret and Marlo Thomas.

GM Style also will feature Marciano for Guess?’s contemporary runway-inspired collection for spring, a celebration of structural, form-fitting silhouettes in glamorous jewel tones of bronze, citron and crimson.

GM Style will be held in a football field-size, climate-controlled pavilion on the Detroit River, just east of GM’s Global Headquarters at the Renaissance Center, and will be simulcast on gm.com. In addition to kicking off the world’s largest auto show, which opens to the media the following day, GM Style kicks off a series of activities, called GMnext, leading up to the start of GM’s next 100 years.
