The Best Of Doo-Wop Comes To McCallum Theatre

It's hip and it's cool and it's The Best of Doo-Wop coming to the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at 7:00pm.

The doo-wop sound instantly evokes some of the greatest songs of the 50s and 60s. The Best of Doo-Wop show is a tribute to the unique vocal harmonies of some of that era's most popular groups. The show stars Buck Ram Platters; Crew Cuts; Olympics; plus the tribute groups of Coasters, Del Vikings, Crystals and comedy host Scott Wood.

The Buck Ram Platters were one of the top groups of the 50s and 60s, with hits including "Only You," "Twilight Time" and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." The Crew Cuts mixed swing with doo-wop and their doo-wop recording of "Sh-Boom" became a major international hit. The Olympics are a favorite at doo-wop shows, performing their hits "Hully Gully" and "Big Boy Pete," among others. The Coasters were popular on the R&B and pop charts with their hits "Yakety Yak," "Charlie Brown," "Along Came Jones" and many others. And who can forget the Del Vikings, one of the most successful doo-wop groups, and their hit "Come Go With Me" with its memorable phrase "dom, dom, dom, dom, dom-dee-doobie, dom." The Crystals were one of the top girl groups, scoring hits with singles including "He's a Rebel," "Da Doo Ron Ron" and "Then He Kissed Me." Rounding out The Best of Doo-Wop show is Scott Wood, hailed as one of the funniest stand-up comedians working today.
