Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti will hold a press conference today at 3:30 p.m. to announce that head coach Brian Billick will be relieved of his duties.

“This is the toughest decision I’ve ever had to make,” Bisciotti said.

Brian Billick was told of the move late Monday morning, one day after the Ravens ended an unprecedented nine-game losing streak by beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-21.

Billick, who owns an 85-67 record after nine years in Charm City, then met with his assistants. Bisciotti spoke to the players at 2:00 p.m. during the final team meeting, followed by club employees at 2:30.

Billick’s Ravens career ends as the third-longest tenured head coach in the NFL, behind Tennessee’s Jeff Fisher and Denver’s Mike Shanahan.

Coming off a franchise-best 13-3 record last year, Brian Billlick signed a four-year contract extension. The Ravens had high expectations for a run at Super Bowl XLII after returning nearly every starter, but fell short after a mix of devastating penalties and turnovers derailed their season.

When the Ravens were embroiled in their slide from Weeks 7-16, the Baltimore Sun cited an unnamed team source that stated confidence in the safety of Billick’s job.

After seven years with the Minnesota Vikings, Billick was hired in 1999 to replace Ted Marchibroda as the Ravens' second-ever coach. The winningest coach in Baltimore football history earned a crowning achievement with a Super Bowl victory that capped the 2000 campaign.

Under Brian Billick, the Ravens reached the playoffs four times (2000, 2001, 2003 and 2006) and earned two AFC North titles. - By Baltimore Ravens News Release
