At least 30 people have been killed in a suicide bombing in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. The bomb hit a crowd of mourners at the funeral of a Shiite army officer.
Last month the number of civilian casualties fell to 480, the lowest level in nearly two years. In December 2006 around 2,000 civilians died in the violence in Iraq.
For the first time since the US invasion in 2003, people took to the streets of Baghdad to celebrate the New Year.
