Woman who tried to assassinate Ford released

A woman who attempted to assassinate former US president Gerald Ford in 1975, has been released. Now 77 years old, Sara Jane Moore spent 32 years in prison after receiving a life sentence.

In September 1975, she grabbed a pistol as Mr Ford was leaving a hotel in San Francisco, but missed when a bystander intervened.

Ms Moore acted out of anger because President Ford had pardoned his predecessor Richard Nixon, who was forced to resign because of the Watergate scandal. Later she said she regretted her actions.
