Brooklyn Museum Offers Free Kid’s Programs

The Brooklyn Museum will offer a variety of events for kids and families in January, including art-making programs, storytelling, a Saturday filled with free family activities, and the final weeks of the special exhibitions Infinite Island and Brushed with Light.

Arty Facts

Saturdays and Sundays, meet in the Rubin Lobby promptly at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Children age four to seven and accompanying adult friends explore the galleries and create art in each ninety-minute class. Arty Facts offers a different program each day. On January 12, an artist from the special exhibition Infinite Island: Contemporary Caribbean Art will talk about creating the work on view and about their life as an artist.

Throughout the rest of January, participating children will explore the surprising materials artists use to create art and form projects of their own. Arty Facts is made possible by the Picower Foundation. Programs are subject to change; call (718) 638-5000 and press 1 and then 4 for up-to-date information.

Tales for Tots

During renovations at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, that museum’s program Tales for Tots has a new home at the Brooklyn Museum on Thursdays, January 10, and January 24, at 2:30 p.m., meeting in the Rubin Lobby. All children five years old and younger are invited to enjoy stories from around the globe. Children’s imaginations soar with an international exploration of animals, arts, and cultures. Stories come to life with a presentation of objects from both museums’ collections.

Target First Saturdays

On Saturday, January 5 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., the Brooklyn Museum presents a free night of music, dance, and art-making classes to celebrate the Museum’s Middle Eastern collection. Highlights include Ayyoub playing Arabic music fused with jazz and Latin grooves, the poetry and theater of Suheir Hammad and Leila Buck, an art class where kids will create a medallion drawing, and the Museum’s highly anticipated annual Waltz party with a Middle Eastern twist. -- www.brooklynmuseum.org
