More and more Swedes are turning to City Hall instead of the Swedish Church when they decide to get married.
In 2007 the number of civil weddings performed in parts of Sweden broke the record and according to the Swedish Church it was the first time since 1970 that the amount of wedding ceremonies performed at a church, dropped to less than half.
According to a report by Swedish Radio News, this can be due to the fact that there is an increase in the situation where the couple has different religious beliefs, and therefore a compromise is reached outside of the church. - By © Copyright Sveriges Radio 2008
