Coach Tony Sparano Leads Extensive List of Coaches Wanted

Dallas assistant head coach and offensive line coach Tony Sparano is interviewing for three NFL head coaching vacancies with Atlanta, Baltimore and Miami.

Fellow Dallas coach Jason Garrett, who serves as offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, has also piqued the interest of the Falcons and Ravens, whom he interviews with on Friday.

Sparano, 46, was brought to Dallas by then-head coach Bill Parcells to become the tight ends coach, where he molded Jason Witten. Sparano then became offensive line coach in 2005, helping to guide three starters to this year's Pro Bowl.

Parcells is now the vice president of football operations for the Dolphins, who recently fired their offensive coordinator Hudson Houck, so Sparano could fill two areas of expertise.

Parcells is reportedly also looking at Arizona offensive coordinator Todd Haley. Haley's father Dick was the Jets' player personnel director when Parcells served as head coach and then general manager from 1997 to 2000. Parcells hired Todd, 40, as an assistant in his first year with the Jets and brought him to Dallas as wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator.

Baltimore requested permission to interview Sparano, Garrett, Indianapolis assistant head coach Jim Caldwell and New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. McDaniels, 31, and Garrett head the league's first and third-ranked total offenses, respectively.

Caldwell has also been called to interview with Atlanta. Caldwell, 52, coached with Tony Dungy in Tampa Bay in 2001 after being the head coach at Wake Forest from 1993-2000. He came over to the Colts with Dungy as well.

The Falcons have also been looking at Green Bay director of pro personnel Reggie McKenzie, Tom Dimitroff, New England’s director of college scouting, Kansas City’s vice president of player personnel Bill Kuharich and San Diego assistant GM Buddy Nix, among others, for their general manager position.
