Thailand moved forward toward sustainable mobility as petrol stations in Bangkok began offering E20 fuel for the first time. Widespread availability of E20 fuel is supported by Ford Thailand as part of the company's alternative energy strategy.

"The Ford Focus is the first car in Thailand engineered to reliably use E20 fuel, so it is no coincidence that the first car to fill its fuel tank with E20 fuel is a Ford Focus," said Saroj Kiatfuengfoo, senior vice president, Ford Thailand.

E20 fuel (a blend of 20 percent ethanol and 80 percent unleaded petrol) reduces greenhouse gas emissions attributed to vehicle use. To celebrate and to promote the use of E20 fuel, Ford Thailand gave away Baht 1020 of E20 fuel to 100 Ford Focus customers at the PTT petrol station on the expressway in Bang Na area.

"We congratulate our customers who are now able to use the E20-compatible Ford Focus to its full potential and capabilities," said Kiatfuengfoo.

All petrol Ford Focus models sold in Thailand from 2005 are E20 compatible and wear a green leaf logo on the back of the car. Customers driving a Focus can use E20 fuel right away.

Some 3.0L Ford Escapes are E20 compatible and also wear the green leaf logo.

“This is an important step toward sustainable mobility in Thailand,” said Kiatfuengfoo "Ford has been working to develop and offer affordable technology that enables our vehicles to use alternative and renewable fuels.”

Ford is a global leader in developing alternative fuel technology and in bringing the technology to market. Globally, Ford has produced more than three million flex-fuel vehicles in Brazil with the ability to use a fuel blended with a high percentage of ethanol. In the United States, Ford has produced more than two million FFVs since 1997.

By 2012, Ford will expand its FFV output to 50 percent of total global vehicle production.

In 1916, Henry Ford, the founder of Ford Motor Company said, “Gasoline is going… alcohol is coming … and it’s coming to stay!” What Henry Ford said almost a century ago is becoming true today. As a global leader in ethanol technology, Ford is strongly committed to extending the benefits of alternative fuel technology to Thai consumers.

Inspired by His Majesty King Bhumibol’s alternative energy initiatives, Ford has supported the on-going development of biofuels in Thailand. This includes the introduction in 2005 of the Ford Focus, the first E20-capable passenger car in the country.

The free E20 fuel filling for 100 Ford Focus customers on 1 January 2008 was honoured by the presence of Dr. Kurujit Nakhontharp, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Saroj Kiatfuengfoo, senior vice president of Ford Thailand, and Mr. Chaivat Churiti, Senior Executive Vice President Oil Business Group of PTT Plc.-Ford
