Tourism Boom In Sweden

Tourists and vacation travelers brought record amounts of revenue to Sweden’s economy last year.

A combination of beautiful countryside and cities along with successful marketing and more regular and cheaper international flights has attracted both business and holiday visitors.

Statistics suggest more than 12.5 million US dollars were earned by the tourism industry. The figure included income from hotel stays, conference fees, restaurant visits and flight tickets.

Civil aviation group LFV’s Jan Lindqvist reported that many of the visitors coming to Sweden for conferences, then extend their stay in order to explore Sweden and go sightseeing.

Jobs in the Swedish tourism sector have risen markedly due to the rise from just over 4000 in 2006 to 154,000 last year.

It is believed the trend will continue into this year. - By © Copyright Sveriges Radio 2008,
