Less than an hour after winning silver in the women's vault final, DPR Korea's Hong Su Jong went one better when winning gold in the women's uneven bars final in the women's artistic gymnastics at ASPIRE on Tuesday.
Jong, who only finished fourth in the discipline at this year's Asian Championships, raised her game tremendously to score 15.525 for her routine. Silver and bronze went to two 16 year-olds; He Ning of China was 2nd with 15.000 and DPR Korea's Cha Yong Hwa was 3rd with 14.800.
Afterwards Ning said: "I feel that I didn't perform as well as I expected. My skills weren't in the right place. The apparatus wasn't too easy to grip, so that made it difficult. I feel my performance was average. My expectations weren't very high because my North Korean rivals did very well with a very high level of difficulty. But as long as my skills were stable and smooth I would be satisfied.
"Today the North Koreans performed very well, but I was mentally prepared for it. What I want to do is keep it up and work hard in training when I get home."
