New Brunswick's State Theatre presents the energetic, fast paced theatrical event Bowfire: Total String Experience on Sunday, January 27 at 3pm. Tickets range from $30-55 (student, senior, and group discounts, plus limited $20 tickets apply).
Bowfire is a top-notch lineup of fiddle and violin virtuosos assembled on one stage. It's a theatrical production, a musical journey that moves seamlessly from Jazz, Classical, Bluegrass, Celtic, Rock, Gypsy, World, Texas Swing and Ottawa Valley and Cape Breton styles, and mixes in incredible step and tap dancing and a beautiful voice.
The Bowfire cast includes: Quebecois Jazz talent Stephane Allard; classical virtuosos Yi-Jia Susanne Hou, and Bogdan Djukic; Bluegrass fiddler Ray Legere; Celtic fiddlers Jon Pilatzke, Kelli Trottier, and Stephanie Cadman (all accomplished stepdancers as well); Shane Cook, a master of several styles; and virtuoso of the Chinese erhu George Gao, whose wide-ranging interests embrace a host of modern styles. In addition to fiddlers, Bowfire has backup musicians on the piano/keyboards, bass, drums/percussion, guitars and cello.
"Crossover doesn't begin to describe the white-hot fusion of fiddle styles delivered by Bowfire...one of the freshest, most invigorating performances ever seen" proclaims the San Antonio Express.
Bowfire is led by Artistic Director Lenny Solomon, one of the most skilled and innovative Jazz violinists performing today. He has toured extensively in the U.S., Canada, and Japan with The Lenny Solomon Trio and is a three-time winner of the annual Violinist of The Year Award presented by The National Jazz Awards.
Solomon, who composes and arranges much of the group's music, founded Bowfire in June 2000. A month later, Bowfire made its debut performance at Expo 2000 in Hannover, Germany. Audience response was wildly enthusiastic, and the group was subsequently invited to perform on the Governor-General's Awards telecast in Canada in January 2001, an honor equivalent to the Kennedy Center Honors in the U.S. The ensemble made its North American debut in the summer of 2001 with a string of stunning performances in Canada and New York City. Since then, Bowfire has toured the U.S., Canada, and Asia, and thrilling audiences with their explosive sound, exciting choreography, and stunning costumes. -- www.statetheatrenj.org
