
Keiko Matsui has set herself apart during her nearly twenty year recording career with her powerful and introspective compositions that blend both western and eastern musical influences. Keiko Matsui will appear at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, California, on Saturday, January 26, 2008, at 8:00pm.
Keiko's first solo release was 1987's A Drop of Water, and her subsequent albums, No Borders, Under Northern Lights, Night Waltz, Cherry Blossom, Doll, Sapphire, and Dream Walk, further increased her popularity. Keiko was named Top Indie Contemporary Jazz Artist of the Year by Billboard Magazine in 1996. In 1997, The American Society of Young Musicians honored her with its Essence Award.
That same year, Keiko launched a tour dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer, and released A Gift of Hope that benefited the Y-Me Breast Cancer Organization. In 1999, Keiko performed at "A Golden Moment", a skating concert featuring Olympic figure skaters Kristi Yamaguchi, Tara Lipinski, Ekaterina Gordeeva, and Katarina Witt that benefited the renowned breast cancer organization, the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
In 1998, Keiko released Full Moon and the Shrine, which was accompanied by a PBS-TV special entitled Keiko Matsui: Light Above The Trees. The special earned Keiko a National Smooth Jazz Award for Best Long-Form Video Achievement. She was honored as the Best Female Artist in 2000 and in 2001. Keiko released Deep Blue in 2001 which reached #1 on Billboard's Top Contemporary Jazz Albums chart. In 2004, Keiko released Wildflower, followed by Walls of Akendora in 2005 and Moyo in 2007.
