Do Jump! presents "At Such a Dizzy Height", a visually stunning display of aerial dance, circus arts, video and live music. The Portland-based troupe takes the audience on a playful journey celebrating life, love, color, shape and spirit.
Their performance draws inspiration from the paintings of Marc Chagall, who said, "The dignity of the artist lies in his duty of keeping awake the sense of wonder in the world." Do Jump embraces this belief, and like Chagall, strives to inspire people through the wonder of everyday images that evoke memory, illuminate the mysterious, and break down barriers to time and place.
"At Such a Dizzy Height" was conceived and directed by Robin Lane, the Founder and Artistic Director of Do Jump. The performance features animation by Chel White; paintings by Portland visual artists Mary Ellen Pinfold, Annie Warnock, Mark Loring, John Early, and Laura Bender; and live music by Joan Szymko, Klezmocracy, Joe Janiga, Courtney Von Drehle and Ralph Huntley.
For 30 years, Robin Lane has led the Do Jump troupe in creating a unique blend of theatre, dance, aerial work, acrobatics, dynamic visuals and live music that defies categorization. Celebrating both individual creativity and community spirit, Do Jump has thrilled audiences throughout North America.
This performance of Do Jump is suitable for all ages and is also offered as part of the McCallum Theatre Institute's (MTI) Field Trip Series, and as an Aesthetic Education program focus work this season.
The McCallum Theatre Institute, established in September 1997, is the education division of the McCallum Theatre for the Performing Arts. The Institute offers a spectrum of arts education programs for the community and is reaching more than 37,200 schoolchildren and classroom teachers in 2007 and 2008.
