The European Union will today come closer to a universal treaty on the physical punishment of children.

Thanks to Swedish legislatures who pushed for the proposal, the EU Parliament is to enact its child strategy in which more regulations will be introduced surrounding children and their rights.

In an interview with Swedish Radio News, Inger Segelström, an EU Parliamentarian from the Social Democrats said that no country has voted against the proposal and that she was pleased with the result.

Apart from physical punishment the child strategy also implements other regulations on issues such as paedophilia, child pornography and commercials directed at the child market.

The treaty also affects the rules surrounding adoption and protects the rights of orphans – a move that has been popular amongst different organisations that work with these issues and the protection of children.- Source: By SRI News
