New Zealanders are debating how best to honour Sir Edmund Hillary after his state funeral is held later this morning.

Prime Minister Helen Clark says Sir Edmund did not want sculptures of himself, he just wanted his charity work to continue.

Ms Clark has hinted the New Zealand Government will probably boost its annual donation to Sir Edmund's Himalayan Trust, rather than naming an airport or a road after him.

Aucklanders have woken up to rain and blustery winds this morning, but still thousands are expected to turn out to watch the funeral procession move through the city. - Source: By Australian Broadcasting Corporation
