Government officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo have confirmed that they will sign peace agreement with rebel leaders in the next 24 hours.
The agreement is the result of more than two weeks of talks between government officials, local leaders and rival armed factions.
It is designed to end months of bloody conflict around the eastern town of Goma that has driven more than 450,000 people from their homes over the past year.
The agreement will establish a technical commission to oversee a permanent ceasefire, a disengagement of troops and the disarmament of the rebels. - Source: By Australian Broadcasting Corporation
