Prime Minister welcomes Palestinian PM to No10

Gordon Brown has welcomed Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad to Downing Street.

The two leaders spoke about the current security situation, Palestine's economic regeneration and looked ahead to the private investment conference planned for the spring.

Salam Fayyad was sworn in as Prime Minister in June 2007. He was born in 1952 near the West Bank city of Tulkarm and holds a PhD in economics from the University of Texas.

The PM and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas held a press conference in Downing Street in December. Mr Brown pledged $500 million in aid to help boost development in Palestine as part of a drive for a 2008 peace deal.
