The Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra will celebrate its 40th anniversary of its opening night at Powell Symphony Hall on Thursday, January 24, 2008, at 7:00 PM.

This free program will feature talks from musicians (current and retired) who played that first evening at Powell in 1968.

Also scheduled are musical selections, including Concertmaster David Halen, with a string ensemble, playing Mozart and Pianist Barbara Liberman performing Scott Joplin.

Marc Thayer, Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra Vice President for Education and Community Partnerships, said, "This evening will feature a variety of events. Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra Music Director, David Robertson will address the audience; Elizabeth Sayad, who was co-chair of the Opening Gala Concert and Events Committee in 1968, will be on hand; and we will feature music played by Isaac Stern, who was the guest artist later that weekend.

And, with music by composers like Mozart, Joplin and Lalo played by our Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra musicians, it should be a really fun night." -- www.slso.org
