Louisiana GOP Caucus Results

This evening, the Louisiana Republican Party held caucuses at 11 sites across the state to select delegates to a state convention at which Louisiana's GOP convention delegates will be determined. The Louisiana caucuses could potentially benefit one of the Republicans running for President, but this one really takes the cake--it's so complicated that no one is reporting on it.

The caucuses closed at 8:00 pm--9:00 here--so maybe it's a bit early for results, which will be difficult to interpret in any event. But so far the only thing we could find was from a Ron Paul supporter who stated that the Paulies had a majority of the turnout at the Lake Charles caucus site.

Here's how Louisiana's caucus works (I think): The attendees at the 11 caucus sites voted on delegates to the statewide convention. Those delegates are nominally "uncommitted." But if a majority of attendees at a caucus site were, for example, Ron Paul supporters, they would vote for delegates who, in turn, will support Paul. But that process only accounts for about half the La. delegates to the GOP national convention. The remaining delegates--those who are "at large" or "bonus" delegates--will be selected at the state convention; if someone gets 50% of the vote in a "beauty contest" primary on Feb. 9, then he gets that second tranch of delegates; otherwise, they're also nominally uncommitted.

That said, it looks like Ron Paul has a decent chance of ultimately having quite a few Louisiana "uncommitted" delegates in fact committed to him.

And if that's so, it will certainly teach the Louisiana Republican Party leadership a thing or two about having such a ridiculous nominating process.

In any event, it looks like Loosianans will be ignored, despite this amusing quote from Roger Villere, the chairman of the La. Republican Party, earlier this month: “We’re excited about the upcoming caucuses. I believe this system will allow Louisiana Republicans to have a strong impact on the election of the next President of the United States.” - Source: By X Curmudgeon Blog

Ron Paul supporters are certainly passionate and creative in their efforts to elect the most pro-freedom Presidential candidate in 200 years. (Jefferson left office in 1809)
Go Ron Paul!

Good for Ron!

Good for Ron Paul! 2nd in Nevada and a possible 1st in LA....6 million dollars raised in one day (a record) and enormous military support, beat Rudy in almost every state to date, has more money than any candidate besides Romney (who is self funded) ....But even still, the media will pretend he does not exist...just wait and see.

Am I the only one that notices that no one reports on this man who is defying all odds and getting crazy votes without media attention? While Rudy is being endorsed like crazy and Paul has beat him over and over?

What?

It seems to me this has been the most democratic process so far, with no media intervention to skew people's beliefs....

ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, the Ron Paul presidential campaign calls on the Republican Party of Louisiana to count all the ballots submitted in the state’s January 22 caucus.

“The failure of the Louisiana GOP to properly determine who was and wasn’t eligible to vote threw this entire process into disarray,” said Ron Paul campaign manager Lew Moore. “The party needs to correct this mistake by counting all the votes immediately, and releasing the results.”

Due to mistakes by the Louisiana GOP, hundreds of voters were forced to file provisional ballots, including nearly 500 that could change the outcome of the election. According to party officials, caucus locations relied on a voter list from November 1, 2007 despite the fact that under caucus rules, voters must have registered Republican by November 30, 2007. The Louisiana Secretary of State reports that 2,709 Louisiana residents registered as Republican between November 1, 2007 and November 30, 2007.

In multiple instances on caucus day, state-certified Ron Paul delegates that were on the ballot were forced to file a provisional ballot despite the fact they were pre-approved as delegates.

The Louisiana State GOP also changed the rules at the last minute to allow other candidates to file more delegates. At the time of the original January 10 deadline, Ron Paul had the largest number of delegates pledged to him. The party then changed the rules to give other candidates until January 12 to file more delegates.

So much for him being a "long-shot". He just took 2nd in Nevada and now it looks like he might've dominated in Louisiana. This despite the lack of him being mentioned anywhere in the mainstream media. It is evident that this guy has the most enthusiastic supporters. Count me as one of them. He is really the only anti-war candidate. The democrats fooled me once into voting them into power in congress. So why hasn't the war ended? To quote George W. Bush "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...uh...we can't be fooled again."

The new front-runner

Jake's picture

With a fractured Republican primary and the so-called "front-runners" running out of money and free media exposure fast (i.e. Huckabee, McCain, and Guiliani), it is looking more and more like Ron Paul is the genuine front-runner. I say this because he gets more donors that any presidential candidate, which means that he has more real support because his support is coming from real peopl rather than a small minority of support from rich folks with deep pockets.

The GOP needs to realize

Zideo's picture

The GOP needs to realize that they have nothing to fear by dropping IRAQ like a bad habit.. I mean come on - to quote a recent major endorser "We are republicans since when did we need the feds protection?”…. I have a three second lesson on second amendment rights for anyone who tampers with me or mine. After all we steamrolled IRAQ anyway - only thing we are doing their now is playing security guard. Why doesnt IRAQ just pay Blackwater to do that with that mountain of gold (ie oil) they are soon to tap into?

RIGHT ON!!
It makes me sick to my stomache how our country has been hijacked by a group of F##king criminals. They send our troops to the slaughter for greed, oil and for their political adgenda. They don,t give a SHIT about the troops. They should take the side of the American people and come home. They would get a warm welcome from me. The votes count for shit.
On a good note, Ron Paul is like the messiah, risen up to save us from the evil forces within.
If you look at the faces of the other candidates when Ron speaks. They are having a politcal lesson. You can see them sucking in his message. They know he is the most educated up there, and never contradicts himself. Honesty is his best policy. He needs to get his own TV station. F**k Main stream media. Go RON PAUL, save America.

Rigged Elections Either Way America Loses

Eliot Bernstein's picture

All Presidential Candidates for the 2008 election belong or are funded by a group started by Skull and Bones of Yale called the Council on Foreign Relations, a war mongering group that disguises itself as a think tank. Most members belong to Skull and Bones, the Bilderbergs, the Trilateral Commission, etc. just like Kerry and Bush (both Boneheads). Again, these Nazi sympathizing groups have stacked both sides of the ticket to assure themselves control of the government.
Check it out
2008 Presidential Candidates Members of the CFR include:

Democrat CFR Candidates:

Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton (Yale Law, Editor Yale Review of Law and Social Action), John Edwards, Chris Dodd and Bill Richardson

Republican CFR Candidates:

Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Fred Thompson, Newt Gingrich

Corporate members include:

Halliburton of Dubai, British Petroleum, Dutch Royal Shell, Exxon Mobile, General Electric (NBC), Chevron, Lockheed Martin, Merck Pharmaceuticals, News Corp (FOX), Bloomberg, IBM, Time Warner, JP Morgan/ Chase Manhattan & several other major financial institutions.

Other Notable Members Include:

Dick Cheney (Director 1987-1988), John Kerry, Bill Clinton (Yale Law, met Hillary while attending), Al Gore, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, John, David & Nelson Rockefeller, Condolezza Rice, Paul Wolfowitz, Alan Greenspan (Director 1987-1988), Colin Powell, Henry Kissinger, Angelina Jolie (Yes, the actress has a five year term membership as an ambassador), Lewis Scooter Libby, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Maurice Hank Greenberg (Vice Chairman & Director).

The goals of the CFR are best described by its very own members. Bill Clinton's Georgetown mentor and CFR member Carroll Quigley states: "The Council on Foreign Relations is the American branch of a society which originated in England... [and]...believes national boundaries should be obliterated and one world rule established." Quigley differs from many of his CFR colleagues in that he believes their plan for a new world order should be more publicly disclosed. In his book Tragedy and Hope, Quigley concedes he is unique among his peers in that he believes the new world order plan of global government's "role in history is significant enough to be known." Quigley also admits that the two-party system allows for both groups to be controlled at the highest level but operate like bitter rivals. As Quigley says, this gives the voters the chance to "throw the rascals out at any election without leading to any profound of extreme shifts in policy." Controlling Washington elite allowed private central banks to dominate the political system...and economy of world as a whole" and implement a new system of "feudalist fashion" through "secret agreements." Although he believes the CFR's intentions should be more public, Quigley understands the average person doesn't understand feudalism or serfdom and will never read his book.
"The individual is handicapped by coming face-to-face with a conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists." J. Edgar Hoover

President Kennedy said of Freemasonry: "The very word 'secrecy' is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it." President John F. Kennedy address to newspaper publishers, April 27, 1961

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but morally treasonable to the American public." Theodore Roosevelt

Wahsinton DC (Fat City) Our tax dollars support what amounts to an "influence bazzar" . Our nations capitol, where representatives go to garner support and money for their local constituents. Unfortunatly, they must compete with special intrests from all over the world. Well spent corporate dollars build cash aqueducts that channel our tax dollars to support their global agendas. I believe that money should stay with those able to earn it. If the worlds outstretched hands continue to accept our charity, will they ever be able to fend for themselves? We can take care of ourselves, and our neighbors if need be. That should be a personal choice, not a national obligation. Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness are the mandates of the constitution. Beyond those things our government has overstepped its boundries.
Ron Paul has my support.
