Thirty-six-year-old Hassan Nagi is accused of sexually assaulting three female passengers in his cab between 2003 and 2007.

Nagi was arrested and charged on Wednesday last week after a seven-month investigation by a special police strike force.

Police said it was not until officers used DNA technology that they were able to link the cases, which took place at Glebe, Kings Cross and Kogarah.

They say the technology may lead to further charges against the driver.

Magistrate Brian Maloney today granted bail in Central Local Court, accepting a $200,000 surety offered by the accused's brother.

Earlier, police defended their decision not to tell the public about the rapes, saying three rapes in four years was not a sufficient link to indicate there was a predator.

Inquiries are continuing. Police have urged anyone who has been sexually assaulted in a taxi and has not reported the crime to come forward.
