Republican Debate In Florida Keeps Civil

Posted January 25th, 2008 by admin_huliq

The first 40 minutes of tonight's Republican presidential debate in Florida have seen so cheap shots between candidates, and an air of civility.

The candidates all approved of the incursion into Iraq with the exception of maverick Rep. Ron Paul of Texas. McCain, of course, is looking better all of the time because of his support for the surge long before President Bush came around to the idea.

Mitt Romney and John McCain both criticized the management of the war following the initial attack. - By The Turner Report

MSNBC - "In a mostly civil exchange, GOP presidential hopefuls focus on strengthening the economy; all but Ron Paul defend the invasion of Iraq, denounce Democrats' calls for troop withdrawal."

Republican Debate In Florida and Social Security

Ron Paul is saying he wants to get young people out of the social security and take care of the elderly. "Let the young people get out," so we can help the elderly. He says his program has a better chance to help people then any other program.

Mike Huckabee says we are in trouble because we have smaller group of people paying into the social security. He says we need a fair tax system to support social security. He says bring back the U.S. Economy so more people go back to work in USA.

Romeny: "I don't want to raise taxes." Romney offers personal accounts where people can invest in social security and those can be managed better than the government can do. The social security will change for 20 years old, 30 years old and 50 years old.

Giuliani was asked a question about NY Times "attack," to which he responded that during his 8 years of being the mayor of NYC he never has done what NY Times has suggested him to do.

Romney defending against attacks says "Look at my record as the governor of Mass."

McCain says his temper is not an issue as an impediment. He says he was able to make close friendships not only over the years but also relationships across the isle as well.

Huckabee says "my faith grounds me, impossible to run from it." "This country has always been a country where people have respected people because they have faith... Faith has been an important part of what this country is."

Ron Paul says he thinks the Republican Party has a problem because "we don't act like republicans... we used to stop wars, we stopped the war in Korea, in Vietnam, and now we are starting wars."

The Florida Republican Debate was aired from The Florida Atlantic University.

Poor ethics shown at GOP debate

Anonymous's picture

Wow, this debate highlighted poor ethics in journalism. I am a Ron Paul supporter. I saw that Huckabee and Paul got the least amount of air time. Clearly Tim Russert and the other person asking questions were targeting Giuliani, Romney, and McCain.

It's really not a debate but a form of electioneering that Fox perpetrated earlier this election season. By not allowing each of the candidates running for President equal time to debate each issue and focusing on just a few candidates, you are influencing the campaign.

I feel sorry for NBC and MSNBC. Do you all remember the story of Dateline NBC blowing up a truck gas tank to simulate an explosion on collision? Please return ethics to journalism!

Rigged Debate

The debate was a huge Shame.

All you have to do is look at the time allowed for each speaker. These are approximations,

Romney: 21 minutes, 11 seconds (12 answers and asked 1 question)
McCain: 16 minutes even (12 answers and asked 1 question)
Giuliani: 13 minutes and 50 seconds (10 answers and asked 1 question)
Huckabee: 12 minutes and 11 seconds (8 answers and asked 1 question)
Paul: 6 minutes and 31 seconds (5 answers and asked 1 question)

Paul got 6 minutes. Thats half of huckabee who got the least amount after paul. And more than 3 times less the amount of time as mit romney who got 21 minutes.

Don't people see something wrong with this? Its realy dispicable and pathetic. Screw you Main Stream Media!!!
