Polls Opened in South Carolina, Results Later Today

The Democratic Party presidential candidates compete in a primary election in South Carolina where the polls opened this morning and the winner of the South Carolina Democratic Primary is expected to be known later this evening. South Carolina Democratic Primary is the first primary in a state with a large African-America population, and that is expected to affect the outcome.

The next big test for the Democratic presidential candidates is today, when South Carolina voters go to the polls for the party's presidential primary.

Local and Regional Media On South Carolina Democratic Primary

The Herald Rock Hill, South Carolina writes "Hillary Clinton might not win South Carolina, but the former First Lady made one thing clear on the eve of today's primary: Her chances will rest with middle class, middle income voters who have always served as a pillar of the Democratic Party."

News & Observer reports that "Edwards is still drawing good crowds and is trailed by dozens of reporters and cameramen. But he is having difficulty being heard in the national media. And the pundits are speculating that South Carolina is Edwards' last stand -- at least the last state where he can afford a major television advertising buy and full campaign staff. Edwards, however, says he will continue no matter what happens Saturday.

"The Washington Post reported that the Clinton and Obama campaigns are already making job overtures to Edwards' staffers."

Scott Shepart writes that "While the contest here has narrowed, the outcome in this first test of Southern Democratic sentiments could help resolve some of the lingering questions about each of the remaining three candidates."
