Turkish Delight At Singapore Orchestra

Christoph Poppen, Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Saarbrücken Radio Symphony Orchestra, joins the Singapore Symphony Orchestra for an all-Mozart programme of popular showpieces on March 14 and 15, including the Haffner Symphony - commissioned for the ennoblement of Sigmund Haffner – and yet another of Mozart's most familiar symphonies, the Jupiter.

Since autumn 2007, German conductor Christoph Poppen has been Principal Conductor of the new Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern. From 1995 to 2006, he was Artistic Director of the Munich Chamber Orchestra, establishing the ensemble's new profile within a short period of time.

Young violinist Vilde Frang will star in Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5, whose nickname was derived from the picturesque passages of Turkish music in the final movement. Born in Norway, Frang was invited by Mariss Jansons to make her debut with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra at the tender age of 12. Since then she has performed with all the major symphony orchestras in Europe. She has won scholarships from the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation since 2003. -- www.sso.org.sg
