Brad Geagley Reveals Secrets Of Cleopatra

Cleopatra and her legacy to all fashionistas in the film world and beyond is the topic of guest speaker and local author Brad Geagley, on Monday, February 26, 2008, 6:30 PM.

The Egyptian Queen and last Pharaoh who ruled from 51 to 38 B.C., was the most influential women of her day in fashion and beauty. Her life, love and legend has been the subject of countless films, literature, plays and television specials.

"I want to show how her legacy has lived on through the decades in popular culture from her clothing to her beauty regimen. And how it was interpreted depending on the contemporary style of the time. For example, Claudette Colbert who played her in a 1934 DeMille epic was the 'Deco' Cleopatra. Elizabeth Taylor was the Jackie Kennedy Cleopatra for the 1963 movie," says Geagley, of the presentation. Geagley has a passion for Ancient Egyptian history. His historical mystery novels include "Year of The Hyenas" (2005) and "Day of the False King" (2006).

On display will be a costume that Taylor wore in the Oscar-winning blockbuster "Cleopatra," most notable for her off-screen affair with Richard Burton and as the second-most expensive film ever made. The evening event is presented by The Fashion Group International of Palm Springs and Desert Communities, Inc., and is open to the public. Refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be served.
