
The Grand Theatre’s Lawrence House Studio will once again resound with the sound of slide guitars, sizzling saxophones, haunting harmonicas and amazing acoustic sets thanks to the welcome return of the Studio Blues season from Friday 1st February.
Les Wilson’s Mighty Houserockers kick of the 2008 Studio Blues season in true rocking style on Friday 1st February. Influenced by such Blues greats as George Thorogood, Hound Dog Taylor and The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Les Wilson’s Mighty Houserockers are aptly named. Wilson brings the party with him, adding manic slide to his raucous guitar licks.
Friday 14th March - Jim Diamond & Snake Davis
Everyone remembers Jim Diamond with affection, just sing them the first line of his million-selling hit I Won’t Let You Down and they’ll instantly recall his passionate, distinctive voice. In the late1990’s Jim met renowned sax-man Snake Davis and they performed together discovering a wonderful on and off-stage chemistry, based on their shared love of soul music, heartfelt melodies and great lyrics. The Grand is delighted to have them perform and this is sure to be a sell-out so book early.
Thursday 27th March - Paul Lamb & Johnny Dickinson
Paul Lamb and Johnny Dickinson are joining forces for a short tour of selected venues to perform a never to be repeated show of acoustic folk/blues. Paul Lamb hailed by aficionados and music press around the world as Europe’s foremost blues harmonica exponent, Lamb has also forged himself a place in the history books as one of the greatest players of our time and is joined by the most potent slide guitar player in the UK, Johnny Dickinson.
Friday 4th April - Doug MacLeod
Doug MacLeod is one of the last remaining Bluesmen who learned from the old masters, lived the music, survived the life, and now continues to carry forward that valuable tradition. Within the Blues world, MacLeod is known for his quality recordings which feature superb songwriting, guitar wizardry, warm soulful vocals, wit, and unforgettable live performances.
Friday 2nd May - Amy Wadge
Amy Wadge has been described as a ‘Pint sized poetess with valley quaking voice.’ Her songs have a raw vibrancy that suit her earthy voice and emotionally mature lyrics. The Welsh singer/songwriter twice scooped the Best Female Solo title at the Welsh Music Awards and is about to release her next album Bump. Amy has toured the length and breadth of the UK and played at many of the UK's prestigious festivals including Cropredy, Hay on Wye Literary Festival, Larmer Tree Festival and Glastonbury. Amy also writes for and with other artists including Marti Pellow, Chris Difford, Henry Priestman, Guy Batson, Amy Nuttel, Jade Gallagher and Lucinda Belle.
