The Mayor is not answering questions but will give a 10 minute conference without media from a room at his church. It is closed to the public.

The Mayor began his press conference by apologizing to the citizens of Detroit. He and his wife Carlita Kilpatrick sat side by side and looked into the eyes of the citizens and laid all their cards on the table. The first lady was courageous in speaking about a sensitive subject. But, she also let the world know that their marital problems are theirs and theirs alone.

However, the most touching moment came when Mayor Kilpatrick spoke on how he had to explain to his twin 12 year old sons what he had done. Kilpatrick said it was the most painful moment in his life to explain to his children why their family was going through what they were going through. Kilpatrick says, "I admit responsibility, and it is mine alone. No, I am not giving up on you, I am not leaving my job."

Kilpatrick proved that he could stand up strong and that extramarital affairs happen and that it is up to he and his wife to work those problems out. The mayor also asked that the media stop "following his children to school."
