Japan removes Chinese products from the menu

Japan has asked China to pay more attention to food safety. The request comes after dozens of Japanese who ate dumplings imported from China fell ill.

Deep-frozen meatballs in the dumplings are suspected of containing pesticides. A five-year-old girl is still gravely ill.

The Japanese government held an urgent meeting because of the food scandal. All products made by the Chinese company involved have been withdrawn from shops. Restaurants and schools have withdrawn Chinese products from their menus.

China has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
