Norman Lovett was well into his thirties before he decided to be a stand-up comedian. TV and radio exposure soon followed, although he is best known for his role as 'Holly' in cult sci-fi sitcom, Red Dwarf. He is one of the small group of comics who played the original Comedy Store, and as well as being a regular feature at many of the country's top venues, has also appeared in various 'unusual' places, including supporting "The Clash" in the late 1970s, and supporting "S Club 7" in more recent times (yes, really).He considers himself to be a stand-up comedian who can act a bit, and is yet to appear in a pantomime.
Robin Ince is a comedian, writer, presenter and all round popular culture pundit and film expert. Over the years Robin has written gags for the likes of Alastair McGowan, Graham Norton, The Sketch Show and Have I Got News For You. He has supported Ricky Gervais on his Politics tour around the country and featured in the Politics DVD that came out last year. He also appeared briefly in an episode of The Office, as a job applicant. Robin has also contributed to the world of radio. Recent credits include writing and performing The In Crowd on Radio 4, and has also appeared in We've Been Here Before, Loose Ends, 4 At The Store and Beat The Kids. Recently he wrote his first feature film, Razzle Dazzle. Set in the world of children's dance competitions, the film featured Ben Miller, one half of comedy double act Armstrong and Miler.
Nick Doody is one of the brightest talents on the comedy circuit. Sharp, topical and not afraid to say what he thinks his brand of political comedy and satire has won fans all over the country. Nick's career as a stand-up comedian got off to a pretty good start whilst still a student, Nick supported the late Bill Hicks on his final tour of the UK. Since then Nick has become a familiar face on the comedy circuit. As well as gigging regularly all over the UK, Nick has also performed in Ireland, Germany and Croatia. Nick is also much in demand as a writer for television, most recently writing for cult animation series Empire Square, BBC4's Late Edition, Channel 4's, 8 out of 10 Cats & Friday Night Project.
The evening will be compèred by Markus Birdman who is an up and coming Stand-Up based in London. He performed at the Edinburgh Festival 2001 as part of Screaming Blue Murder's Big Value Show and as a finalist in the televised BBC New Comedy Awards 2001. He was the winner of the Lewisham Comedy Festival Open Mic 2001competition, as well as a finalist in The Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award 2000, Jongleur's New Act 2000, and Leicester Comedy Festival New Act 2001. -- www.yorktheatreroyal.co.uk
