Oppositional Social Democrats have signalized their willingness to negotiate with the government about the implementation of a new grading system in school.
As the party’s spokesperson for educational matters, Marie Granlund, told Swedish Radio News, the Social Democrats wanted to ensure stability for the pupils. This meant that her party was ready to settle an agreement with the center-right coalition government on how the grading system could be reformed.
Even the Minister for Education, Jan Björklund, from the Liberals said, no one wanted the system to be adjusted after every change of government. Thus a compromise across party-lines was an absolute necessity, Björklund added.
The government intends to implement a more diverse grading system ranging from A to F, similar to the systems in Britain and North America.
